DEN Breakfast 01
Union Station's the best coffee cluster in the city. Top picks:
Queen City Collective (1899 Wynkoop, one block) — 4.8★. Single-origin, huge space, tons of outlets. Best coffee of the group. Weekdays 7–5, Sat 8–2, closed Sunday.
Amp Artisan Coffee (1801 Blake) — 4.9★. The most inventive drinks in Denver — cardamom-strawberry-black pepper latte, pandan-rose matcha, all house-made syrups. Opens 8 AM.
Pipsqueak (1949 17th) — 4.9★, opens 7 AM daily. Ube matcha, rosemary honey affogato, soft serve. Quieter than the Union Station crush.
Huckleberry Roasters (1800 Wazee, Dairy Block) — 4.5★, 7 AM daily. Reliable, plus real food — the almond-blueberry toast is a full breakfast.
Pigtrain — literally inside Union Station, 7 AM–7 PM daily. Gorgeous room, most convenient, but the coffee's just okay (4.2★). Go for the setting.
Little Owl (1555 Blake) — 4.7★, 7 AM. Tiny, coffee-focused, grab-and-go.
Two scheduling notes: Queen City, Convivio, and Kaffe Landskap all close weekends or Sunday — so for your free Sunday, aim at Pipsqueak, Huckleberry, Little Owl, or Pigtrain.
Good news — there's real range. Best non-American options for Friday morning:
Japanese
- Stowaway Kitchen (RiNo, ~7 min) — 4.7★, opens 8 AM Fri. The Asa-Gohan Japanese breakfast set is the standout, plus black rice porridge and yuzu waffles. Reservation recommended. My top pick.
- Tokyo Premium Bakery (Platt Park, ~15 min) — 4.8★, opens 6 AM. Curry bread, custard donuts, proper Japanese bakery. Go early; things sell out by 9.
Korean
- Ogo (Union Station, walkable) — 4.9★, opens 8 AM. Kimbap and bento, quick counter service, outdoor seats facing the fountains.
Pan-Asian
- Onefold (Union Station area) — opens 7 AM. Congee, duck fried rice, crepes — a genuinely good congee if you want something warm and light before mezze.
French
- Trompeau Bakery (934 16th St, walkable) — opens 6 AM Fri. Croissants, cafe au lait, chai. The easiest early option.
Vietnamese — nothing downtown, but New Saigon Bakery (S Federal, ~15 min, opens 8 AM) does the best banh mi in the city if you want to make the trip.
For Friday specifically I'd do Stowaway — it's the most interesting meal, it's a light Japanese set that won't wreck your 1:30 mezze lunch, and it puts you in RiNo, which you're revisiting Saturday anyway.
